A native of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, she had lived in Clarinda since her marriage to Edwin Lisle in 1901. Edith Allison Crane was born April 25, 1882 to Baron and Abbey Mellen Crane. She attended Iowa Wesleyan before coming to Clarinda. She had been a member of the PEO Sisterhood for 77 years, receiving her 70-year pin at special honors in 1971. Her five children survive, including Mrs. Max (Helen) Greenlee of Boulder, Colo., Vernon of Clarinda, Mrs. Read (Edith) Arthur of Clarinda, Mrs. Marcia McClintock of Columbus, Ohio, and Edwin of Clarinda. She has 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and one great grandson. Mrs. Lisle was well known for her interest in the community, especially of Iowa Western Community College. Her husband, Edwin, was on the Clarinda school board when the college was established here. Her son, Vernon, had been instrumental in passing legislation supporting the community colleges in the Iowa legislature. A grandson Ed S. was president of the Iowa Western board of directors and the Community College Corp. which established the campus here. In 1967 the Edith Lisle Library was built on the campus here with Mrs. Lisle taking part in the dedication. Memorials are being established with the United Methodist Church and a scholarship fund will be started for the Clarinda center of Iowa Western Community College. Rev. Jerold Irvin will officiate at the memorial service with Helen Hall Hosbinson as organist. Burial will be at the Clarinda Cemetery prior to the memorial service.
