He was the fourth child in a family of seven children. The three who preceded him in death are Charles Vernon, Lorance Spry, and Vesta Lisle Greene. Those living are Stella Lisle Turner of Clarinda, Edna Lisle Jeffrey of Columbia, Mo., and Harvey Hugh Lisle of Hastings, Iowa. Edwin was educated in the Clarinda Public Schools and at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and then returned to Clarinda and held the position of business manager of The Clarinda Herald, of which his father was owner and editor. Two years later the Lisle Mfg. Co. was formed to engage in the manufacture of well machinery. Edwin was appointed secretary of this company which position he held until the death of his father, C. A. Lisle, in 1920, after which he became president of the company. Under his management the Lisle Co., Ltd., was established at Windsor, Ont. This firm distributed the products of the Lisle Mfg. Co. throughout Canada. Among his many services to the community are the years he served as member and president of the board of education, and at the time of his death he was president of the Clarinda Country Club. He was a member of the Methodist Church of Clarinda since his childhood and affiliated with Nodaway Lodge No. 140 A. F. and A. M. On March 31, 1903, he and Edith Allison Crane were married at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Into this unusually happy home five children were born, Helen Lisle Greenlee of Oskaloosa, Charles Vernon of Clarinda, Edith Lisle Arthur of Clarinda, Marcia Lisle McClintock of Chicago and Edwin, Jr., of Clarinda. Besides his family of five children he had six little grandsons, one of whom lived a very short time. The following tribute was received by the family from the Clarinda chamber of Commerce: Tribute of Respect to the Memory of Edwin Lisle Again the grim reaper has come into our midst and taken from us our beloved citizen and friend; therefore, in our feeble but sincere effort, we attempt in this way to pay our respects to the memory of the one departed, and to assist his bereaved loved ones to bear their burden of grief. In such a time we are compelled to submit to the inadequacy of the words at our command to express the depth of our feelings and extent of our loss. When such a man passes, it is not enough to say that he was one of our most highly respected and beloved business men. He was so much more than that. he was an inspiration to many, not only those with whom he was associated in business, but to many of his business friends here and elsewhere. And now we are saying goodbye but we shall not forget; we shall always cling to the memory of the one who has so enriched our lives Our testimony is, that Clarinda is an immeasurably better place in which to live because of the life work and influence of Edwin Lisle. The simple services were held at the home on Willow street at nine o'clock Saturday morning, August 22, and interment at the Clarinda Cemetery. The services were conducted by Dr. A. B. Thutt, a friend of many years standing. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/iafiles/ File size: 3.6 Kb
