Funeral services were held Saturday at 10:30 am at Walker-Merrick with Rev. John Clark officiating. He was born Dec. 6, 1899 near Clarinda, the son of Peter and Dolly Hollis Schenck. He was a lifetime resident of Clarinda and owned and operated several airstrips in the Clarinda area, the last being at his home at Schenck's Lake, next to the Municipal Airport. He received his pilot's license in 1928, signed by inventor Orville Wright. Last fall the Clarinda Municipal Airport was rededicated Ray Schenck Field in his honor at a ceremony featuring Gov. Robert Ray. He had flown for over 50 years and had operated not only airstrips, but ran a school for pilots. He is survived by his wife Zelma Anderson Schenck of the home and two children, Mrs. Melvin [Neola] Srite and Ronald Schenck, both of Clarinda, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Sisters are Neva Warrick and Helen Sawtell of Molalla, Or. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Juanita, and a son Robert, brothers Harry, Forrest and Beryl, half-brothers Emmett and Elmo and a half-sister Opal.
