Ruthven.
Population, 815. An incorporated town on the C.M. & St. P. and M. & St. L Rys
 (depots 250 yards apart), in Highland township, Palo Alto county,
 11 1/2 miles west of Emmetsburg, the judicial seat, 138 from Des Moines,
 and 2 miles south of Lost Island Lake, a summer resort. It has Catholic,
 Adventist, Free Methodist, Lutheran and Methodist churches, a moving picture
 theater, water works, a public school, 2 banks and a weekly newspaper,
