EMMETSBURG. The county seat of Palo Alto county is a station on the I. & D. div. C. M. & St. P. Ry at the present western terminus of teh P. div. B.C.R. & N. Ry. 281 miles by rail from Burlington, and 115 (air line) northwest of Des Moines. There are 4 churches, a graded school, 2 banks, and 2 weekly newspapers, the Pilot and Reporter. Shipments, grain, stock, and produce. Stages daily to Swan Lake; semi-weekly to Sioux Rapids. Population 1,100. Exp. U.S. and Am. Tel., W.U. Mail, daily. M.L. Brown, postmaster.
