Good. Mr. Good was born in Coshocton co, Ohio, November 18, 1808. He came to Des Moines in 1849, taking up his abode in a log house at Second and Elm streets. He opened a store next to his house and later started a bakery on Second street, north of Market. Later he established a general store, above which he conducted religious services in a hall. What is known as Good's central addition he bought for $300, while the thirty-acre tract on University avenue he obtained in trade for a span of horses. He then purchased the land where the Good block now stands for $250. It was formerly a soggy piece of ground in a corn field. Mr. Good was married in 1833 to Miss Sarah Geil. Of this union four children were born, of whom three are now living. They are Samuel M. Good, Henry Good and Mrs. Maria Harless, all of this city. After his first wife died, he married Barbara Berry in 1849. She died in 1864, leaving him two children, of whom Mrs. Sarah Nysewander, wife of Dr. Nysewander, survives. The funeral was held Thursday Afternoon from the church of the Brethren in Christ at Thirteenth and University Avenue. Pall bearers were Wm. and Ernest Good, Chas. Harless and Mr. Iseminger, grandsons, and Frank Thornton and Lincoln Altman, grandsons-in-law of deceased. Interment took place at Woodland cemetery.
