A Clarion native, he lived in Des Moines about 25 years and was an accounting clerk for Iowa Power and Light Co. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. He is survived by his wife, Carol; two daughters, Mrs. Carol Zeiger Fox of Des Moines and Shirley, at home; a son, James, at home; his step-mother, Mrs. Laura Zeiger of Humboldt; a brother, Paul Tabor; and a sister, Mrs. Vivian Phairs (sic) of Long Beach, Calif." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VIVIAN LUCILLE WENOS MATHERLY PHARES Born -- February 4, 1914 in Goldfield, Wright County, Iowa Died -- October 5, 1992 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa DES MOINES REGISTER, Unknown Date "Vivian Lillian Phares, 78, of 1815 Sixth Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa, died of a heart ailment Friday, October 5, 1992, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. The body was donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences, and memorial services were held at noon on the following Saturday at the home of her granddaughter, Michelle Vanvelzen, 215 S.E. Hughes Circle, Des Moines, Iowa. Mrs. Phares was born in Wright County and had lived in Des Moines since 1983. She had also lived in Long Beach, California. She was a retired waitress at various hotel restaurants in Des Moines and a member of Frisbee School Alumni Association. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Fitzgerald, and two sons, James Matherly and Alfred Phares III, all of Des Moines, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Dunn’s Funeral Home." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ HENRY CLAY MURPHY Born -- June 9, 1899 in Knoxville, Marion County, Iowa Died -- November 30, 1982 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa DES MOINES REGISTER, December 2, 1982 "Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home for Henry Clay "Pat" Murphy, 83, of Marshalltown, who died Tuesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center of a heart ailment. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. Born in Knoxville, Mr. Murphy lived in Des Moines until 1952 and was a painter and woodworker. He moved to Colorado in 1952 and to Marshalltown this year. Survivors include his wife, Grace; a daughter, Carol Zeiger of Des Moines; a son, Patrick of Fremont, Neb.; two stepdaughters, Ida Stein and Marjorie Wahlert, both of Climax Springs, Mo.; two stepsons, Arnold Schwab of Climax Springs and Steward Schwab of Guthrie Center; three sisters, Harriett Bohner of Des Moines, Nora Wahl of Conage (sic) Park, Calif., and Mildred Roark of Stocktown (sic), Calif.; six grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild. Murphy, 88, of the New Haven Rest Home, 5608 S.W. Ninth Street, who died there Friday of a heart ailment, will be at noon Monday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home with burial at Coalridge Cemetery in Knoxville. A native of Mahaska County, she had lived in Des Moines for 22 years. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Knoxville. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Murphy died of cancer Saturday at Des Moines General Hospital. Mr. Murphy was born in Lovilla and lived in Des Moines 26 years before moving to Dexter last year. He was the retired owner and operator of Murphy Plumbing Contracting Co. here.
