Rozelle of Ninth and Des Moines streets, one of the oldest residents of this city, died at his home at 1 o'clock this morning of heart disease. Death was very sudden. Colonel Rozelle was best known to Des Moines as an old soldier. He was a member of Kinsmen Post, G. A. R., and of Donelson command, U. V. U. He has held office in both organizations, serving one term as colonel of the latter. Among his comrades and business friends and acquaintances he was known as an earnest, generous, open-hearted man of sterling integrity and honesty. He was conscientious in all his endeavors, and devoted a great deal of time to the study of social and economic questions. In the latter connection his greatest achievement was the organization of the Iowa Anti-Trust league, of which he was state organizer. The funeral will be held at the residence, 832 Des Moines street, at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon. The Des Moines Gazette Thur Jun 14, 1900 DEATH OF COL. N. W. ROZELLE Col. N. W. Rozelle, one of the well-known pioneers of East Des Moines, passed away at his home near East Ninth and Des Moines streets at 1 o'clock Sunday morning of heart disease. He had been in failing health for several weeks, and the end, while sudden, was not unexpected. Colonel Rozelle's wife died about two years ago and the burden of that sorrow bore so heavily upon him as to seriously affect his health. Since the death of Mrs. Rozelle he has resided with his daughter, Minnie W. Rozell, who is the principal of Alcott school. Colonel Rozelle was a member of Kinsman post. G. A. R., and of Donelson command U. V. U., in both of which organizations he has held high offices and been conspicuously active. He was a veteran of the Mexican war. Though seventy nine years of age he was a wonderfully bright and vigorous man. His tall and commanding figure has been noticed in every parade in which the veterans of the civil war took part during a score of years, and when last Memorial day, sickness prevented the old soldier from joining his post in paying tribute to to the soldier dead, his abscence was remarked. Colonel Rozelle was active in politics as he was zealous in his efforts in advance the interests of war veterans. His study of social and economic questions led him to the conclusion that trusts? were the greatest enemies of the country and he lent his efforts to combatting them. He was state organizer of the Iowa Anti-trust League, the prominence of which organization is due mainly to his labors. Colonel Rozelle, while perhaps radical in his views on certain questions, was conscientious and consistent. He made no enemies by reason of the polital activity and was popular with members of all parties. As neighbor, friend and citizen he held the esteem of the community, and those who knew him intimately saw much in his character to admire. He was generous and kind to a fault, and in his death the world has lost much. The funeral was held at the residence, 832 Des Moines street, at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, and was largely attended, the military organizations turning out in force to perform a last service for a beloved member.
