More than fifty years ago R. L. Goodenow, Sr. established a private bank in Wall Lake which developed into the Wall Lake Savings Bank. Charles Goodenow, the son of R. L. Goodenow,Sr., was president of that bank for nearly forty years. He proved himself a safe banker and weathered the stormy days which proved disastrous to many banking houses. He was considered one of the best bankers in Iowa. Charles Goodenow moved to Sac County many years ago and lived for a time on a farm north of Wall Lake. Later he moved to town where engaged in the merchantile business. When his father wished to retire from active business life Charles was made in charge of the bank. Charles was married to Miss Jennie Newby and to this union eight children were born. Mrs. Goodenow died two years ago. The surviving children are: James of Odebolt, Mrs. Harry Shannon of Timber Lake, South Dakota, Mrs. John Hoff of Hubbard and Royal, at home. Funeral services were held November 14 and burial was made at Wall Lake.
