Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for the Rev. James P. 
Conroy, 82, a resident of Buffalo and retired priest of the Diocese of 
Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 
Davenport. Burial will be in the Priest Circle at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 
Davenport. Visitation for Fr. Conroy will be at St. Anthony's Catholic 
Church from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. There will be prayer services offered 
at 4 and 7 p.m. at the church. Additional visitation will be held 
Thursday at the church from 9 to 9:45 a.m.

Fr. Conroy passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at his home 
in Buffalo.

The Celebrant and Homilist of the Mass of Christian Burial will be Fr. 
Conroy's nephew, The Rev. James Huth, of the Norbertine Fathers; others 
in attendance will include Most Reverend William E. Franklin, Bishop of 
the Diocese of Davenport and other Priests. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries 
Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting the family with arrangements. In 
lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials be made to Marquette 
Academy, or if flowers are sent, please consider all white.

James Patrick Conroy was born Dec. 24, 1922, in Chicago, a true 
Southside Irish. He was the son of James Patrick and Frances Millet Hunt 
Conroy Sr.

He was a veteran of the United States Army Signal Corps.

Fr. Conroy attended St. Ambrose College; St. Paul Seminary, St. Paul, 
Minn.; and St. Louis University, where he studied Hospital 
Administration.

He was ordained May 30, 1953, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. He 
served his first assignment at Holy Family Catholic Church, then as 
Pastor of Our Lady of the River, LeClaire/Princeton; and his final 
assignment as Pastor of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, of which he 
retired from in 1998.

Fr. Conroy served his church and community in many ways, he also had 
served as chaplain of the Bettendorf Knights of Columbus Council, 4403; 
Chaplain at St. Joseph's Hospital, Clinton; the former Mercy Hospital, 
Davenport; and the Veteran's Administration Domiciliary. He was Director 
of Papal Volunteers, Chairman of the National Conference of Diocesan 
Coordinators of Health Affairs, Past Commander of the Quad City Power 
Squadron, Davenport Rotary, and had been selected as Grand Marshall of 
the St. Patrick's Day Parade. One of his greatest achievements was 
receiving the Cardinal Stritch Award for his local and international 
work in health care.

Survivors (and spouses) include sisters, Mary (Herb) Huth, Ft. Pierce, 
Fla., and Sr. Margaret Conroy, Oak Park/River Forest, Ill.; and a 
brother and sister-in-law, Edmund and Carol Conroy, Davenport; as well 
as a host of loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and a 
longtime friend, Sister Ludmilla Benda. He was preceded in death by his 
parents; and brothers, John Joseph, Francis, Wilbur, John Michael 
``Jack'' and Col. Donald Conroy, USMC, Retired. May they rest in peace.
