Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Davenport. Visitation will be today from 4-8 p.m. with a Scripture service at 7 p.m. at the Runge Mortuary. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family or to Trinity Hospice in Rock Island. Jack was born March 9, 1936, in Iowa City. He was the son of John and Norma Marie (Stamp) Hayes. He was raised in Cook's Point in Davenport .He graduated from St. Alphonsus School in Davenport and had completed one year at St. Ambrose University. He formerly was married to Theresa "Teddy" Lopez on July 18, 1953, in Davenport. He had worked for 29 years at Frank's Foundry in Davenport and later worked for the Metropolitan Housing Authority in Rock Island for 10 years. Most recently he had been employed for Burn's Security in Davenport. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Davenport, was one of the founders of the Lulac Club of Davenport and was instrumental in organizing the union at Frank's Foundry in Davenport where he later became president of that union. He also was a tax preparer for the area. He is survived by son, Jack W. Hayes Jr. of Davenport and his children, Lisa and Jack III; son and daughter-in-law, Michael "Hoppy" and Dawn Hayes of Davenport and their children, Tiffany, Brittany, and Corttany; daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Max Tapia of Hampton, Ill., and their children, Nikki, Max Jr., Alex and Lee; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Lopez-Marceleno and Adolfo Marceleno and their children, Matias, Eric and Marco; and brothers, David and Leonard Hayes, and sisters, Helen Mendez and Elizabeth Fuller, all of Davenport. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Geraldine Collett; and a grandson, Richard "Dewey" Tapia. "May they all rest in peace together."
