OBITUARY, Davenport Democrat, 18 Apr 1949: James R. Hinton, 46, of 2613 Thirtieth Street, Rock Island, an automobile salesman and used car dealer in Davenport and Rock Island, died of a heart attack at 6:55 a.m. Sunday at the residence. Police attempts to revive him with an inhalator failed. A resident of Davenport and Rock Island ten years, Mr. Hinton was born at Novinger, Mo., Dec. 15, 1902. He was reared and educated in Novinger and married Lorraine Barnes in Rock Island, April 5, 1946. Mr. Hinton was a former salesman for the Blackhawk Chevrolet Co., Davenport, and the Economy Motor Sales, Rock Island. Prior, Mr. Hinton was employed at the Rock Island arsenal one year, and also operated a gas station at Thirt-eighth street and Eighteenth avenue, Rock Island. Mr. Hinton was operating a used car lot at Thirty-eighth street and Fourteenth avenue at the time of his death. Surviving are the wife; one son, James R. Hinton, jr., a daughter, Cheryl Lynn, both at home; his mother, Mrs. Evelyn Hinton, Davenport; two brothers, Basil, Davenport, and Bryan, East Moline; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hunt; Mrs. William Levinson, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Ruby DeLap, Davenport. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Knox mortuary with Rev. Richard N. Chase, pastor of Central Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale cemetery, Davenport.
