All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************* WILLIAM BRAZELTON was born in Sangamon County, Illinois, near Springfield, Dec. 31, 1821. His father, Benjamin Brazelton, was born 1795, in East Tennessee, married in 1816 Alice Moore, in Ohio, migrated to Illinois in 1817, and moved to Vermillion County in 1828. In 1832 he volunteered in the Black Hawk war in Capt. Jesse Brown's company of Rangers, and died August, 1832, of cholera, at Rock Island. His mother was born in South Carolina in 1799, and died in western Iowa in 1856. Mr. Brazelton came to Iowa in 1840, located in the west of Linn County, where in 1843 he married Kate Winton. In 1845 he moved to Bowen's Prairie, Jones county, and in 1850 to Independence, and built the first store, school house and hotel in that place. He returned to Bowen's Prairie in 1853, where he still resides. He married Ruth Minton. His family is as follows: I. GEORGE, born Dec. 15, 1844, married, 1865, M. E. Crucenberry; she died 1874. He married, 2dly, Alice Byers in 1875. Resides at Bowen's Ferry. II. JANE, born Oct. 1, 1846. III. ELLEN, born Oct. 25, 1848, married Alex. Lewis 1865; resides at Monticello. IV. OLIVE, born Feb. 10, 1851, married, 1873. George Rice; resides on Bowen's Prairie. V. OWEN, born Aug. 30, 1853, married, 1872, Miss R. J. Wright; resides in Wright Co., Iowa. VI. SARAH, born July 23, 1855, married Frank Dawson; resides in St. Louis, Mo. VII. JEROME, born June 3, 1858. IX. PERRY, born June 20, 1861. IX. NOEL, born June 30, 1863. X. CHLOE, born May 25, 1866. XI. RUBY, born Jan. 14, 1871. Mr. Brazelton is a most worthy citizen, and is highly esteemed by all who know him.
