All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************* JAMES S. PERFECT was born in Delaware County, Ohio, July 4, 1828. His father was born in Kentucky and was of English origin; his mother was of German descent. They moved to Ohio about 1810, and engaged in agriculture. Until twelve years old Mr. Perfect aided his father on the farm, and then learned the merchant tailor's trade, and followed that business for about twelve years in Ohio and Illinois. He moved to Anamosa in February, 1857, and engaged in clerking for C. H. Metcalf, in which capacity he continued till 1861, and then was appointed Deputy Treasurer and Recorder of Jones County, and in 1864 was elected to the office of Recorder and served two terms, then entered into partnership with C. H. Lull in the mercantile business, which continued till 1875, when in company with his brother, L. J. Perfect, he opened a grocery store on Main street, opposite the Fisher House, in Anamosa. Mr. Perfect married Susan M. Graham, daughter of John Graham, of Virginia, and Otis L., William G., and May N., are the names of his children.
