SKINNER, M.D., was born in Pompey, Onondaga County, New York in 1825, studied medicine in Fulton, Oswego County, graduated at Woodstock Medical College, Vermont, in 1850, practiced in Litchfield, Herkimer County, New York, came west in the Fall of 1856, and settled at Anamosa. After a year's residence in Cerro Gordo County, he returned to Anamosa, and was in the Recorder's office as deputy. In 1860 he went to the Rocky Mountains -- Pike's Peak -- gold hunting; returned in 1861, bought a drug store, and has been in the business ever since, although frequently called to perform professional service. His father came west two or three years before he did, settled in Fairview Township, and died there in the Fall of 1864. His brother, Pratt R. Skinner, was one of the early settlers of Anamosa; was a surveyor and engineer, laid out Skinner's Addition to Anamosa, was Chief Engineer of the old Iowa Air Line Railroad, and of the Dubuque & Southwestern. He was in the service during the rebellion, and as a business man he had few superiors. He now resides at Portland, Oregon.
