STACY. -- Mr. Stacy was born at DeKalb, St. Lawrence County New York, January 9, 1820. He taught school for two years in his native county; went to Ohio and taught there in 1844, and in the Spring of 1845, at the close of his school went to Illinois, and the year following was married to Miss Amelia L. Donaldson, July 1, 1846, at Dover, Illinois. Engaged in mercantile business until the Fall of 1855, and then started for Iowa, traveled many portions of it, and finally in Mitchell County selected about twenty-seven hundred acres of land in the interest of his brother and for himself, and has since resided at Stacyville, which he laid out in 1856, and for him it was named. He has seen the hardships and trials attendant on a pioneer life in Northern Iowa, and now lives in the full enjoyment of a well- spent and successful life. He is at present engaged in carrying on a farm of seven hundred acres - four hundred acres under cultivation - and with his son - R. F. Stacy - a general country store at Stacyville.
