F. WEBSTER, ESQ., was born in Richland County, Ohio, November 9, 1818, whither his parents had removed from Cayuga County, New York, and settled ten miles west of Mansfield, when the country was a wilderness. In 1834 they removed to Will County, Illinois, near Joliet, where they resided two years, and then went to LaPorte County, Indiana, where Mr. Webster completed his education in thirty-two days in a log school-house, in 1837. He has never attended school a single day in any other than a log cabin. He was married in 1847 to Miss Eliza J. Carlisle, and continued to live in La Porte County until April, 1857, when he removed with his family to Howard County, Iowa. He was elected Treasurer of Howard County in 1865, serving two years. In 1867 he removed to Cresco, where he now resides, and of which town he is the present mayor, having been elected to that office in 1874, and re-elected in 1875. He is the proprietor of the Webster House. Mr. Webster has a heart filled with sympathy for his fellow men, and is always ready to do his utmost to relieve the distressed and unfortunate wherever met.
