Civil War Pension Abstract of Isaiah SNOOK(S); Iowa Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by Kathy Ruth http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ********************************************************* Civil War pension record for Isaiah Snook(s) Company C, 7th Regiment, Iowa Infantry Volunteers Born: Nov 1, 1845 in Montgomery County, Indiana Married: Dec 27, 1874 to Amanda Metzger in Washington Co., Kansas Died: July 4, 1920 Buried: Lusk, Wyoming Enlisted on 24 July 1861 as a private and was honorably discharged on 12th December, 1862. He was wounded on 22 Oct. 1862 at a place called “Bone Yard” in Mississippi. The “bone yard” was outside of Corinth, Mississippi. He received a musket shot in the left arm while on picket duty. He said shot was from the accidental discharge of his musket and occurred between the hours of nine and ten o’clock at night on said day. His left arm was lying across the crook of the bayonet at the time and over the muzzle of his musket. He said that he does not know what caused the discharge of said musket, but that it was purely accidental. His left arm was amputated above the elbow, which rendered him unable to work. The stump was so diseased that he was unable to be fitted for an artificial limb. His pension started at $8 a month in Jan.,1863 and was increased at various times during his life. At the time of his death he was receiving $72 a month.
