Mr. John George Kopf, Sr. was married to Mrs. Margaret Little in 1866. They were the parents of 8 children, 3 dying in infancy. Margaret (Little) Kopf died Jan. 03, 1876, leaving 5 small children. In the fall of 1876, Mr. Kopf and his 5 children moved from a farm 1 mile north and 1 mile east of the present town of Farrar, to a farm which in a few years would include the town of Farrar, the Methodist Protestant Church and the Cemetery. Mr. Kopf was married to Mrs. Martha Ann (Marsh) Hill on Aug. 17, 1875. Mrs. Hill had been married to Henry Hill, who died Mar. 31, 1875. Mrs. & Mrs. Hill had 11 or 13 children, 6 living to adulthood. Martha raised Mr. Kopf's children, who at the time were: Anna, 9 years; John George, 8 years; Andrew, 7 years; Nathan, 6 years; and Charles, 3 years; with her youngest dau. Rosa 5 years, the rest of her family now gone from the parental home. Mr. Kopf married third 28 Jan 1907 Polk County, Mary Elizabeth Lowe, born 05 Aug 1859 Buchanan Twp., Atchison, Missouri, and died 09 Jan 1929 Mitchellville, Polk, Iowa. Mary was the niece of Martha Ann (Marsh) Hill Kopf and married first Frank Crissey Tyler born 17 Aug 1853 Claremont, Sullivan, New Hampshire, died 16 Jun 1897 Mitchellville, Polk, Iowa. When Nathan was a young man, he had the measles and then tuberculosis, thought he might not live long and wished to be buried close to his home. So John George & Martha Kopf gave the ground for the Farrar Church and Cemetery on a corner of their farm. Nathan Kopf died at the age of 23 years. Additional Comments: John Kopf, Sr. was buried in McKeever Cemetery 2 miles north of Colfax, Iowa by the side of his first wife. Mary Elizabeth Lowe was the daughter of Josephus & Phebe Ann (Marsh)Lowe and the granddaughter of Daniel & Ann (Bazel) Marsh.
