Obituary of Sylvia Grove Brown(Clipping from Family Scrapbook, exact date unknown 1932) Sylvia Grove Brown, daughter of Jacob and Clarissa Kennedy Reed, was born in Taylor county, Iowa, June 24, 1855, and passed away at the home of her son, Corbly Fordyce, July 27, 1932 at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 3 days. She was one of the first white children born in this county. She was married to Leroy Fordyce in 1871. To this union was born three children -- Arabella, who died in infancy; Corbly V., of Blockton and Opha Bishop, of Weldona, Colorado. The husband and father died in 1876. She was united in marriage to Will Brown in 1881 and to this marriage was born three children -- Wade Brown, of Aurelia; Clara Ostrander, of Redding, and Jake Brown, of Ideal, South Dakota. Mr. Brown died in 1888. Besides her children she leaves to mourn her eparture, one sister, Icie Jenkins of Athelstan, and two brothers, Miles A. Reed of Monte Vista, Colorado, and George B. Reed of Blockton. Also 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Mrs. Brown was converted at an early age and joined the Methodist church. She lived a long and active life and knew the trials and hardships of pioneer life. Never too busy to stop her own work and help other [sic] when in need, she lived a Christian life and was at her post of duty as long as her health and strength would permit. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Friday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by Rev. W.
