At the age of ten years, in 1852, he moved with his parents to Warren County, Illinois. In October, 1869, he came to Union County, Iowa, and has resided in this vicinty up to the time of his death which occurred at the family home in Kent, Friday, July 26th, 1912, at the age of 69 years, 10 months and 2 days. April 7th, 1870, he was united in marriage to Lucinda Johnson. To this union was born five children, all of whom survive him and were present with the wife and mother at his bedside when the death angel made the final summons. The children are - Mrs. Laura Hansell of Ringgold County; Mr. Arra Jones of Kent; Mrs. Francis Carr, Berwick, Illinois; Mrs. Rosetta Hoke, Kent and Mr. Thomas W. Jones, Kent. In addition to these, he leaves three brothers and three sisters as follows - John W. Jones, Kent; Dudley Jones, Lincoln, Ne; George Jones, Agler, Colorado; Mrs. Edna Conley and Mrs. Sarah Robinson of Rich Hill, Missouri and Mrs. Francis Smith of Grainfield, Kansas. In early life Mr. Jones was converted and united with the Baptist church and was a firm believer in the Bible and the christian faith, and in his last illness repeatedly expressed his faith and trust in both and divine forgiveness. He was a charter member of Kent Lodge #555, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was one of the pioneers of this section which he did his full part in making what it is, a splendid neighbor and friend, and his wide circle of neighbors and friends mourn with his loved ones today over his removal from our midst.
