Afton Star-Enterrpise
Mr. Lambert SHEPHERD was born in Ohio County, Virginia, December 11, 1828, and
died November 6, 1908 at the home of his son Charles.
The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel SHEPHERD. When a mere child he
immigrated with his parents to Illinois where he grew to manhood and married
Ellen PHAIL in 1853, coming to Iowa in 1854, where he has since resided. To this
union was born eight children, three of whom have preceded him to the spir-world
as has his wife, Ellen SHEPHERD. Those that survive him are Charles, Jerry, and
Mrs. Frank JORDON, of this place, Mrs. Eugene BIGGS of Missouri Valley and Lorin
SHEPHERD of St. Joe.
Mr. SHEPHERD united in marriage with Mary PHAITH in 1887 and to them was born
one child, Zetta, who died in early childhood. His wife and an aged brother,
besides his many nieces and nephews remain to mourn his loss. About eight years
ago he united with Methodist Church.
He was among our respected citizens and was loved and respected by all who knew
him. His death was a great shock to his many friends.

FUNERAL SERVICES
The Lam SHEPHERD funeral Monday was one of the largest attended for a long time.
He was widely known over the country and had many friends was wished to pay
their last respects to him. The funeral was held at the home of his sone
Charlie. Rev. Menoher conducting the services. Burial was had in the SHEPHERD
cemetary. A brother of Lam's was buried in this cemetery forty years ago, and it
was from him it got its name.
