V. JOHNSON of California and Mrs. Carrie MARTZ of Ottumwa visited at the A. A. DONAHOO home Thursday of last week. --W. W. ZAHNISER has leased the Harry MARTIN farm near Prairie Chapel church and will move there next March. Mr. HUNT who occupies the place this year will move to the Mrs. STUMP farm, known as the John BACHMAN place east of town. --Morgan CHIDESTER, 85, died Saturday, September 19th at his home in Mantua township. Funeral service was held Tuesday. Rev. BROWN officiating and interment in Bethel cemetery.--Monroe County News. Morg CHIDESTER was one of the old pioneers of Mantua and will be remembered by many Excelsior readers. He was a great lover of home and got much enjoyment out of life. He was a splendid citizen and this community sympathizes with the relatives who are left to mourn. --H. J. JOHNSON visited over Sunday with his son Carl who is working in St. Paul. --Mrs. M. J. SEEDS of Oskaloosa has been visiting with Blakesburg friends the past few days. --Tom LAUGHEAD of Newton, and Jack PARKER and wife of Ft. Dodge were in Blakesburg Tuesday. --Geo. READING of Davenport spent Saturday night and Sunday with Chas. READING and wife. --Oscar WIAND and family and Mrs. Minnie KRAUSE and son of South Dakota who have been visiting relatives here departed for their home the last of the week. --Commencing October 5th, Mr. DUBOIS, the shoe maker, will be in his shop only three days each week--Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Please govern yourselves accordingly. --Blakesburg has added another family to her midst during the past week, when Rev. and Mrs. C. G. CURRY moved here from Ollie, Iowa. They occupy the Eugene TUBAUGH property on Main street. Rev. CURRY is the new pastor of the Baptist church and comes here highly recommended as a minister. Thurs Oct 16, 1925 URBANA --Mrs. Ella GILES passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. Fern HUNT, in Ottumwa Saturday afternoon. Thurs Oct 22, 1925 POPULAR YOUNG FOLK WERE HAPPILY WED LAST THURSDAY A pretty home wedding of charming simplicity took place at the brides home Thursday, October 15th at 12:30 o’clock when Miss Mildred ABEGG was united in holy bonds of wedlock with Mr. Donald SPENCER, the Rev. Chas. L. ELLIS, pastor of the Blakesburg Methodist Episcopal church, read the service in the presence of near relatives and a few immediate friends; the ring service being used. They were unattended. After congratulations the guests enjoyed a delicious three course dinner. The bride wore blue crepe with hand painted georgette godets in the skirt. Her going away suit was brown jersey with hat and coat to match. The bride is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter ABEGG, and is a very popular young woman. After finishing school here she attended high school at Alliance, Nebraska, from which institution she graduated. She attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and is a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. The groom is a popular young business man of Alliance, Nebraska, being associated with his father in the creamery business. He also attended the university at Lincoln where he affiliated with the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. Mr. and Mrs. SPENCER departed on the afternoon passenger train for Lincoln amid showers of rice and best wishes of a host of friends. Their baggage was properly labeled and not a single thing was left undone by the merry crowd which accompanied them to the station. After a brief honey moon trip, they will be at home to their friends in Alliance, Nebraska. The out-of-town guests included Dr. and Mrs. William ABEGG of Kirkville, Miss Florence JACOBSON of Ottumwa and Mrs. A. G. BARCLAY of Boone. The Excelsior unites with their many friends in extending hearty congratulationas and best wishes as they go down life’s narrow pathway. TERSELY TOLD --Mrs. Ben STOCKER came out from Ottumwa and spent Saturday with her mother, Mrs. Ida PICKERELL. --The W. C. HUNT public sale was held Monday and a large crown was present and the buying was very spirited. --Henry CURRY, the Bloomfield auctioneer, was a Blakesburg visitor Monday morning. He came to assist Max BERRY in crying the HUNT public sale. --Ray VanCleave, who had been a guest of Blakesburg relatives for a week, returned to Des Moines last Sunday. He was accompanied home by Harry Cloyed. --Wm. ROSE, who runs the pump for the Milwaukee Railway at Bromptom was a caller at the "news factory" Thursday. Mr. ROSE has been operating the pump at Brompton for ten years and is so accustomed to the work that he feels lost every time he leaves home. --The Unionville M. E. congregation gave a get-acquainted party at the social rooms of the church last Thursday evening, in honor of Rev. WARD and family, who have just located there. Refreshments of pumpkin pie with whipped cream and coffee were served. --Rev. Cash. L. ELLIS of this place was called to Ottumwa to officated at the wedding of John SIEMAN of Kilbourne, Iowa, and Mis Hildred WEBSTER of Douds, which took place Monday afternoon in the parlors of the First M. E. church. --Mr and Mrs Ward BAKER entertained a company of thirty relatives at dinner Sunday in honor of Mrs. BAKER’s sister Mrs. L. C. STROMIER of Davenport and her brother, A. L. WATSON of Arnett, Oklahoma. Those present were, Samuel GOODE, wife, son Maurice and daughter Grace, John GOODE and family, Cyril GOODE and family, Arthur GOODS and wife, Elmer MILLARD and family, Archie GOODE and wife. A sumptuous dinner was served at the noon hour. All departed in the evening after a very pleasant day. Thurs Oct 29, 1925 The remains of Harry LEACH who was burned to death by an explosion of oil when he attempted to build a fire, was laid to rest in the Eslinger Cemetery Thursday. The service was in charge of members of the Ku Klux Klan.
