Mr. Proctor has been ill for many weeks and while everything known to medical science was done for him, yet it was no avail. Mr. PROCTOR was one of The Excelsior’s staunchest friends, one of the cleanest men we have ever known--his character a consecration--and as we write these few lines we can see his face again, and hear his voice from behind the Hills of God. Of modern things he was not over fond, though he watched the pageant of events and personalities with a quick and keen interest. His enthusiasm for good was boyish in its joy and delight. He was a man among men. Death’s Toll Wm. TRUSSELL, well known and prominent citizen who was raised in Urbana township but resided in Albia for a number of years, died at Excelsior Springs, Mo., and was buried Sunday. An impressive funeral service was held in Albia Sunday afternoon, the Masonic fraternity had charge of the ceremony at the grave. Mr. TRUSSELL will be remembered by many of the old pioneers of this community being a brother of Mesdames DERBY and DeHAVEN of this city and Mrs. Herman SNOW of Ottumwa. He was a splendid citizen in every way and always believed in the higher ideal of life. Attended Funeral Mesdames DERBY and DeHAVEN went to Albia Sunday to be present at the funeral of their brother, W. H. TRUSSEL. Celebrates Birthday Mr. and Mrs. E. O. BODIN planned and carried out a very pleasant surprise in honor of the fiftieth birthday anniversary of Mrs. Charles E. ROBERTS, Tuesday evening, January 20th. ....As the guests were leaving for their various homes, wishing Mrs. ROBERTS many happy returns of the day, she gave as souvenirs of the evening, pieces of a huge angel food cake, baked and sent by her daughter, Mrs. Herman HUBER of Blakesburg, Iowa.....There were forty guests present, amongthose were Mr. and Mrs. S. M. HUNTER, the former being Mrs. ROBERTS’ only brother or sister living nearer than Iowa. ---Daily Journal, Turlock, Calif. New-comers here Mr. KLEINDORST and Mr. and Mrs. STUART of Prairie City, were here Monday to attend the HOWARD sale. They have purchased the DAY farm and will move to same March 1st. Relative Dies Mrs. J. G. THAYER has just received a letter announcing the death of her great grand-daughter, Aileen COHAGAN at Polk, Nebraska. The deceased was the oldest child of Dona COHAGAN, formerly of Blakesburg and a daughter of Lou VIRDEN. Dallas Winecup, Old Pioneer, Dies Monday. Dallas WINECUP, a pioneer citizen of this community, died at the State Hospital at Mr. Pleasant from the effects of pneumonia Monday evening at 9:30. The funeral was held at the Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. EVELAND of Ottumwa officiating. Burial in the city cemetery. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 1925 All Over Now Wednesday evening, February 4th at 6:30 o’clock at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Omer JOHNSON, occurred the marriage of their daughter, Mary to Archie GOODE, Rev. LEACH performing the ceremony in the presence of the immediate relatives. They are both very popular young people, coming from among our best families, and their numerous friends are now showering them with hearty congratulations. They will go to housekeeping on the DOTY place east of town. When the doors of NOLAND’s’s big store swung wide open last Monday morning, it was free cigars, free candy and free ice cream and cake and hearty congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. George NOLAND, who arrived here on the local freight from Ottumwa, where they were united in holy matrimony by Justice Frank LYNCH Sunday evening. The bride is a stranger here and come from Mishawaka, Indiana, her name being Lillian Gertrude BOLIN. The groom is one of Blakesburg’s popular business men and he and his bride are now receiving hearty congratulations from his many customers and friends. The Excelsior hope the bride will like Blakesburg and our people and that Mr. and Mrs. NOLAND will live happily ever after. LOCAL SHOTS --Ronald ROBINSON and family were here Sunday to attend the funeral of Ernest ROBINSON. --Mrs. Ella WALDEN of Council Bluffs who has been visiting here for some time, spent one day last week with Mrs. A. A. DONAHOO. These two ladies were playmates together in an early day. --Mrs. CHILDS is showing a complete line of trimmed hats for ladies, misses and children and would be pleased to have you call at her residence and inspect them. Never were the colors more beautiful or the shapes more becoming and the prices are very reasonable. --Mrs. Lizzie McALISTER spent part of last week at the Dick FABOR’s home in attendance of her brother’s funeral. --We noticed in the Courier the marriage of Florence MILLER of Udell and Leslie POTTER of Van Wert. The bride has many friends in Blakesburg who wish her well. Mr. POTTER is station agent at Van Wert and has been well known to the Excelsior folks since he wore kilt skirts. Congratulations. CHILLICOTHE --Mrs. Alta McADAMS of Ottumwa spent Sunday at the parental SHORT home. PLEASANT HOME --Harold MILLARD was an over night visitor at the home of his sister, Mrs. Frank PATRICK of Ottumwa Sunday night. --Last Wednesday evening occurred the marriage of two of our prominent young people; Archie GUODE (GOODE?) and Miss Mary JOHNSTON. They were remembered by the young people of the community by the usual gathering of tin pans, cow bells and various makes of mouth organs of the noisest (sic) kinds to make merry the short time they were there. Here’s wishing this worthy couple a happy journey through life. --Orville SHIELDS spent Sunday night at the parental Geo. MILLARD home. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 1925 RAVELINGS --Walter SCHOECH and wife are located at Haynes, Florida. --Oscar BENSON and wife spent Sunday at the parental GILLAND home southwest of town. --Mrs. Edna MALONEY of Ottumwa spent the weekend at the parental SHEA home. --James CHISMAN who has been serving as carrier on Rte. 2 for some time has been transferred to Ottumwa. They expect to move there about the first of the month. --Word was received here the last of the week of the death of Cecil LEAVERTON who died at a hospital in Burlington. “Pete”, as he was commonly called, was at one time a resident of Blakesburg and had many friends and acquaintances here who will be sorry to learn of his death. --A farewell reception was given Roscoe BELLES and wife and Mike FEIHLE and wife by Union Chapel folks....both of these families will soon move to Blakesburg. --Ed SCHOECH is no longer boss on the upper section: he has “stuck in his thumb and pulled out the plum” as roadmaster on that section of the Milwaukee between Ottumwa and Muscatine. He will move his family to Washington where they will make their home....(Elsewhere: they will live at 601 W. MainSt, Washington, Iowa.) GRANDVIEW --Mrs. Melissa WARNER, son Laurence and daughter Pearl visited Sunday at Frank JOHNSTON’s near Bidwll and attended the funeral of the late Catherine JOHNSTON. BROMPTON --George McGILVERY and family were recent visitors at the parental ROBINSON home. --Rosa DARBY and daughter Hazel visited Thursday with the former’s mother Grandma ROBINSON. HERE AND THERE --Mrs. Ed. SCHOECH and baby daughter are spending this week at the parental Harry TOWNSAND home in Moravia. --Tuesday, February 17th Vard ROSS celebrated his 82nd birthday; he was the recipient of several presents and remembrances in the way of letters and cards from old friends in Kentucky. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 26,1925 LOCAL SHOTS --Mrs. Jane DERBY spent several days last week at the home of her sister, Mrs. Herman SNOW. --Mrs William SHEA returned home from Dexter, Iowa, last week, where she had been called to attend the funeral of her aunt, Mrs. Christian FRITZ. --Glen SELMAN has decided to try Colorado again on account of the climate being beneficial for his health. He has been a sufferer of asthma. He and his father, Dr. T. J. SELMAN, left this week for Denver. --Ralph SNOW has accepted a situation in the state office of the Farm Union at Des Moines and will hold a closing out sale at his farm east of town Friday, February 27th. He expects to move to Des Moines in March. --Mrs. May FRANKENBURG of West Bend, Wisconsin, was a guest of her sister, Mrs. H. J. JOHNSON and brother O. E. THODE several days last week. Mesdames JOHNSON and FRANKENBURG left the first of this week for Excelsior Springs Mo. --Mrs. Bertha BUXTON, a sister of Walter ABEGG, is very ill at her home in Hutchinson, Kansas.... GRANDVIEW --Gale GILLEN and family were Sunday evening callers at the parental Joe ANGEL home. LINE 93 --Mrs. Ed JAMES is in What Cheer helping to care for her mother who is sick. --Mrs. Lucile METZ of Oskaloosa is visiting her sister Mrs. Mark SEEDS. --Mark SEEDS is a patient at the St. Josephs hospital. --Mrs. D. W. BAKER passed away at the Ottumwa hospital Monday, February 23rd...Mrs BAKER had been failing in health for some time... --J. V. POST of Fredrick, South Dakota, is a guest at the home of his brother C. L. POST --Mrs. Mina WARNER was called to Kansas City last Friday evening, where she is caring for her son who is dangeriously ill. --Mrs. Mattie PORTER of Albia was a recent visitor with her mother Mrs. DeHAVEN.
