GRAND VIEW --Mrs. Vista RITTER and daughters spent part of last week at the parental E. CHIDESTER home. --Carl DIMMITT and family were Sunday guests at the parental John MOLESWORTH home near Farso YOUNG MAN A SUICIDE Freddie SELMAN, 17 years old, was found hanging from a limb of a tree near Ash Grove, Wednesday morning about 8 o’clock. The coroner’s jury after an inquest returned a verdict that the youth had come to his death by his own hand. The body was found hanging from the tree by children on their way to school. It is believed that it had not been there long, as the youth had been seen a short time before. He arose early Wednesday morning and helped with the chores on the farm as usual. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. John SELMAN, with whom he lived, noticed nothing unusual about his conduct prior to his act. It is said that the boy had been in ill health, and despondency over that may have accounted for his taking his own life. Thurs. Mar 19, 1925 RAVELINGS --According to the Albia Union-Republican a marriage license was issued to Miss Edna DERBY and Laurence SMITH who were united in holy bonds of wedlock last Wednesday. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry DERBY and is a splendid young woman. She attended the Blakesburg public school and is quite popular among her friends. The groom is a promising young farmer and is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter SMITH. The bride and groom have gone to housekeeping on the farm formerly occupied by Fred WOOLLUMS, and have the best wishes of their many friends. --There was a "de-horning" party at SHEA and Sons barn Monday and as a result several town cows are minus their horns. De-horning cattle brings back memories of long, long ago when every spring the farmers residing north of town would drive their herds to the H. S. BERRY farm where they had their horns taken off. Ed CHISMAN, a son of Luther CHISMAN, now of Golden City, Mo., was the man who did the work and after his day’s work was finished he was covered with blood from head to foot. Ed has since passed to the great beyond. The boys of the neighborhood were always present and sometimes would get into quite an argument over the horns taken from the cattle. Those days are gone for ever. --The Grim Reaper is no respector of persons and on Saturday evening called home our old friend, Marion CASSILL, a well known and popular farmer residing north of Ash Grove. Mr. CASSILL was stricken only a few days before his death and was taken to the hospital in Ottumwa, where he received treatment and passed away. The last time we met him was in Ash Grove a few weeks ago and he was feeling fine and seemed very jolly, and now to chronicle his passing seems almost an impossibility. Mr. CASSILL was a splendid citizen, entertaining and well posted, a good reasoner and close observer and will be greatly missed by his friends. A few years ago his wife passed away and this was a blow he could hardly stand. He is survived by his son, Lester and other relatives. Peace to him! MUNTERVILLE --C. L. SWANSON returned home Monday after a visit with his daughter Mrs. Clarence LOCK in Ottumwa.
