MILLER. --Mrs. Coy WOODFORD and sons of Ottumwa were Sunday visitors at the parental John BELLES home. --Floyd WHISLER and wife of Udell were Sunday visitors at the parental SAUM home. --Chas. FULMER of Nebraska spent several days the past week visiting old time Blakesburg friends. Mr. FULMER came here to see about erecting a monument to mark the last resting place of his mother. --May 15, 1925, at Red Oak, Iowa, occurred the marriage of Miss. Laura WEIDMAN to Mr. S. T. DANFORD of Macedonia, Neb. The bride is well-known in this place, where she grew to womanhood and was a successful teacher in the schools of this vicinity, having taught in our city school for some time. Mr. DANFORD is a mechanic by trade in the town of Micedonia (sic) whre they will make their home... TOWNSHIP CORNERS --Ernest DAY and wife of Ottumwa passedthrough here Saturday enroute to decorate his mother’s grave at Wesley Chapel. GINGRICH of Grand Rapids, Michigan, is visiting with her mother, Mrs. Wm. JOHNSTON. --J. W. JOHNSON, 75 years of age and a gray-haired veteran of many occupations graduated from Penn College at Oskaloosa last week. He will occupy a place on the police force and says he intends to have lots of fun out of it. --Mr. and Mrs. Charles READING celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary last Thursday. Mrs. Martin TINSELY entertained a party of relatives to dinner in their honor. George READING and family of Davenport were here... --Sunday morning at 5 o’clock at the Lutheran church in Des Moines occurred the marriage of Ray CUNNINGHAM and Miss. Lillian ELLISON of that city. “Johnny” as he is familiarly known is a Blakesburg product, having spent his boyhood days here. A few years ago he took up the study of the ministry and he with his bride will go to the missionary fields of India this fall. NORTH OF TOWN --Allie ANDERSON and wife are the happy parents of a baby girl, born June 4th. Mrs. ANDERSON was formerly Marie KIMBLADE. They now live north of Chillicothe. --J. W. JOHNSON received work last week of the death of their little grandson, Carl Dean, twin son of Carl JOHNSON and wife of Ottumwa. GRANDVIEW --Mrs. Bertha TURNER and sons of Marshalltown are visting at the parental E.D.WARNER home. FAIRVIEW --Miss Zetta (Zetla?) LOCKMAN of College View, Neb.has been visiting at the W. E. LOCKMAN home. PLEASANT HOME --Mrs. C. T. REYNOLDS and daughter of Delavan, Minn., who has been spending a few days with her parents Rev. and Mrs. LEACH, returned home Friday. --Wm. Thurs, June 18, 1925 MARRIED At the country home of Mr. and Mrs. Austin SASSEEN near Batvia, was the scene of an impressive ceremony at eight o’clock Sunday evening when their daughter, Miss Vera was united in bonds of wedlock to Walter HUBER of this city. The words united this popular couple were spoken by Rev. C. L. ELLIS of this city. The bride is well and favorably known in Blakesburg, where she has taught school the past two years and is a great favorite in the circle in which she moves. She is in every sense of the term a cultured and refined young woman in is in every way ably qualified to assume her new sphere in life. She was re-elected as a member of the high school faculty for the next school term and has proven one of our best qualified teachers. The groom comes from one of our best families and is one of our most popular young men. He is connected with the Blakesburg Auto Co., and is a highclass mechanic. He is a splendid young man in every way. The newly weds had planned a honey moon trip to the coast, making the trip in their car. They intended to start on their western trip immediately after the ceremony, but owing to the incessant rain Sunday the start was abandoned until the following day. They intend to spend six weeks sight seeing and visiting with friends. They received many valuable and useful presents, Those from this place who attended the wedding were: Rev. and Mrs. ELLIS, Carl HUBER and wife, Marion HUNTER and wife, John HUBER, Jr. and family, Jacob HUBER and wife, Martin HUBER and family, George HUBER and family, Herman HUBER and family, Matthew HUBER and wife and Lester GLOVER and family. The Excelsior joins a large host of friends in extending hearty congratulates to the bride and groom. RAVELINGS --Rev. and Mrs. Jas. WORRELL of Webster, Iowa, are the parents of a son, Dwight Edward, born June 12th. --Another of the old pioneers, Aunt Sallie WILSON, has passed to her reward, having died Sunday, June 14th. (see obit, Sarah J. WALDEN) --Mrs. S. A. HECKART, a former well-known resident of Adams township who now resides at Santa Ana, Calif., has arrived in Wapello county to spend the summer with relatives. --Mr. and Mrs. John BELLES had as guests at their home Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Sander PIERSON of Washington, J. Ross BACHMAN and family of Ottumwa and Carl BELLES and family. Mr. and Mrs. PIERSON formerly resided on their farm north of this city but moved to the state of Washington about ten years ago. --”Marjery Jean” is the handle given Mr. and Mrs. Eugene ABEGG’s baby girl. She is a mighty lively little girlie and does her part to make the ABEGG home in Chicago all its name implies. Eugene says his babe is one little girl that a man does not have to act foolish in order to make her smile, because she smiles all the while. --Mrs. R. J. WILLEY received word Saturday of the death of her grandmother Mrs. J. H. CAMPBELL of Jacksonville, Illinois. --Mrs. Frances HOLDEFER of Omaha died Saturday and was buried at Donelson, Iowa, Monday. The deceased was an aunt of F. J. ROKEY of this place. --A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Willard SWASICK one day last week. LINE 93 --The people of this community were shocked when the work came Saturday that Mrs. Willis LEONARD had passed away at the St. Joseph Hospital. Mrs. LEONARD taught the Mr. Carmel school in 1924 and has many friends there. (elsewhere in this issue: the funeral of Mrs. LEONARD was held Monday at the M.E. McDOWELL and family were called to Grinnell Saturday by the death of Mr. McDOWELL’S grandmother CHRISTIANBURG --A little daughter’s arrived at the home of Ward BAKER and wife Friday. NORTH OF TOWN --Carl CARLSON of Tekamah Nebraska was called home by the serious illness of his father Gust CARLSON. Carl also visited his sister, Mrs. Paul SINSKEY and family. OTHER NEWS --W. S. WILSON Jr. of Ohio and Mrs. G. F. HALL of Knoxville were called here on account of the serious illness of their mother Mrs. Sallie WILSON, last week.( see obit, June 18, Sarah J. WALDEN) Thurs, June 25, 1925 RAVELINGS --Mrs. Laura MILLER and daughter Mrs. Harley STEVENSON, attended the funeral of Miss Letitia KENDALL at Fairfiield last Friday. --Dan COMPTON of Kansas City arrived Saturday night to join his wife who has been visiting her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. WIEDMAN. Mrs. COMPTON will be remembered as Ruth STEVENSON. --Sander PIERSON was a pleasant caller at the Excelsior office Saturday. Sander left here about ten years ago and located at Bow, Washington, near which place he purchased a farm. He is so taken up with that country that he is here for the purpose of selling his farm north of Blakesburg. Sander’s two boys are now men and are making good. --There was a family reunion June 21st at the C. L. BROOKE home, those in attendance were E. R. SELIZ and family, G. H. BROOKE and wife of near Kellog, L. E. BROOKE and family, O. D. BROOKE and wife, Chas. DOWNING and wife and Geo. BROOKE. The entire family being present except one son, Roy, who is working away from here. LEGAL ABSTRACT: appointment of administrator: Walter ABEGG for estate of Mary J. SWINNEY. BROMPTON --Roy DARBY of Washington D.C. arrived last week on account of the serious illness and death of his grandmother M. J ROBINSON --Mary Jane ROBINSON passed away at the home of her daughter Jenne in Albia Sunday morning. This is the passing of an old time resident of our community. Grandma, as she was most familiarly known was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever needed. She will be greatly missed and her pleasant smile and cordial welcome will linger in our memories forever. Funeral services were held in Albia Monday at 1 o’clock. Interment was made at the Eslinger cemetery by her life companion who preceeded her in death several years ago.
