A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. R. J. WILLEY at the Ottumwa hospital last Thursday afternoon. The young man tipped the beam at 9 ½ pounds. --A son was born to Elmer MILLARD and wife June 20th. --John BELLES and wife were entertained at the Otto SCHOECH home Monday, the occasion being John’s 78th birthday. He is a firm believer that a man is as old as he feels and he feels real pert. BROMPTON --Friends at this place have received the announcement of the marriage of Roland ESLINGER to Miss Susan Elizabeth SOUTH of Red Bluff, Calif. “Rollin” was born here and spent his childhood at this place and his friends wish him porsperity. ASH GROVE --The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe SYLVESTER was buried at Hopewell Sunday at noon. MUNTERVILLE --Word was received here of the marriage of Miss Alice CARLSON to Rev. Carl SODERBLOOM which took place at the Grace Lutheran Church in Rock Island, Ill., Rev. C. M. OLANDER officiating. Miss CARLSON was well known around here and was loved by everyone. Rev. Mr. SODERBLOOM is pastor of the Zion Lutheran church at Jewett, Penn. where he and his bride will be home after August 1st. --Mr. and Mrs. Elmer HAWES are the parents of a baby girl. Mrs. HAWES was formerly Marie GUNNERSON of Dudley, Iowa. FAIRVIEW --Mrs. H. STOCKER has returned home after a few weeks visit with her daughters Mrs. Wm. THARP of near Bloomfield and Mrs. Anna ROBINSON of near Moulton. She was accompanied by her granddaughter Miss. Blanche THARP. CHRISTIANBURG --Mr. and Mrs. Chas. LEWIS received a message from Tampa Florida, Sunday, that a granddaughter had arrived at the home of Mervin DIXON and wife. BRUSH CREEK --Curtis REINHARD and wife visited at the parental Stocker home Sunday. Thurs, July 9, 1925 RAVELINGS --Dr. Roy PIERSON and family of Muscatine were guests at the parental Henry FRITZ home last week. --Mrs. R. J. WILLEY and the brand new boy, James Wayne, returned home from the Ottumwa hospital Sunday. --Lloyd ROSS and wife of Burlington spent Saturday here, the guests of Mr. ROSS’S parents, Vard ROSS and wife. --Mr. and Mrs. Mervin L. DICKSON of Tampa, Florida, announce the arrival of a daughter, Ruth Ethelyn, June 28th. The Excelsior congratulates the DIXONs and hopes the little lady will be a source of much joy and comfort in their home. --Ike REED, known all over Iowa as an auctioneer, visited in Blakesburg last week. Mrs. Ike lives in Oskaloosa... MUNTERVILLE --Mari HAINES and little daughter of Chillicothe returned home from the hospital Sunday evening. --A large crown was present at the burial of John PETERSON Friday afternoon. FAIRVIEW --Born to Mr. and Mrs. Walter HARPER Saturday July 4th, a baby boy. NORTH OF TOWN --John PETERSON, age 79, passed away at the Ottumwa hospital last Wednesday, July 1, after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Friday in the Munterville Church of which he was a member, conducted by Student Herbert GLYNN and Rev. BERSELL. --Gust CARLSON underwent a serious operation at the Ottumwa hospital Monday, having his right limb amputated below the knee. GRANDVIEW --Mrs. Nettie GROOMS was a recent visitor at the parental William JOHNSTON home. Thurs July 16, 1925 RAVELINGS --A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Bernard HENSON in Ottumwa, July 5th. Mrs. HENSON will be remembered here as Miss Cleo DUNHAM. --Marshall ALBRIGHT and wife have decided to spend next winter in California with their daughter, Mrs. H. E. HUNTER. They expect to leave here sometime in August. --Raymond RITTER and Lottie HENDERSON were united in marriage by Rev. TROSTLE of Davis county. They will make their home on a farm near Drakeville where the groom has employment. they are now receiving the congratulations of their many friends. --A daughter was born to C. W. HUNTER and wife of Des Moines, July 3rd. --John BELLES and wife of Jackson, Mo. arrived Sunday evening for a short visit with Blakesburg relatives. John was married on May 9th, to Miss. Bessie HEINBAUGH of Jackson and this is Mrs. BELLES’ first visit here.... LEGAL ABSTRACT--DIVORCE Eunice McCLAIN vs. C. C. McCLAIN, grounds of adultery, she is asking for costs and fees of $50.00 and custody of the three minor children, Harriet, Richard and Marceine. Thurs, July 23, 1925 --Harry OVERTURF, who was murdered near his home in the edge of North Ottumwa last week, is a son of our old friend Steve OVERTURF, and has many relatives in this part of the country. He leaves a wife and five small children to mourn his death. --Gus JOHNSON and wife, Mrs. Teller CAREY, Mrs. Earl McELROY and Mrs. Clara FREDERICK attended the funeral of Mr. WHITE, father of Mrs Othello CAREY at Bloomfield Monday. --Mrs. Mary SMITH, formerly residing east of Blakesburg, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. FLETCHER, 311 Chester Ave, Monday evening. Funeral service was held at the Finley Ave. Baptist Church, Ottumwa, Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. L. W CHILDS. --A number of relatives and friends planned and carried out a surprise dinner on S. A. MEFFORD, east of Blakesburg, it being his birthday. A fine dinner...(description of dinner omitted)...Those attending from a distance were: Mrs. Tiny WILLIAMS and granddaughter, Thelma WILSON of Wichita, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Wig HARDING and son, Wallace, of Eddyville, Mrs. Mary E. MEFFORD and Walter OSBORN of Foster, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph FREND and daughter Olive Oleta of Belknap. Thurs, Jul 30, 1925 --On Saturday afternoon Mr. Raymond RITTER and Lottie HENDERSON were united in marriage at the home of the officiating minister , Rev. TROSTLE. The happy couple will be at one on a farm near Drakesville....(Bloomfield Messenger) NORTH OF TOWN --A family reunion was held inMemorial Park Sunday in honor of Ray WANSTEDT and wife, who leave for Colorado this week where they will make their future home...(there was no list of those attending) SWAIM REUNION --The annual SWAIM reunion was held last Sunday at the home of Ernest SCHROEDER and family in Ottumwa. A picnic dinner was served in the Caldwell Park. Those in attendence were Eli SWAIM and family, Earl MILLER and family, Lottie PROCTOR and sons, Kenneth, and Glen, Sherman SWAIM and family, Claud MILLER and wife and Marion MILLER. --Rev. J. E. WARD and wife came over from Martinsburg after their daughters who had been guests of Blakesburg friends since Sunday. Rev. and Mrs. WARD resided here some twenty years ago when he was pastor of the M. E. Church.
