The young man has regulation lung capacity and will be a real farmer in after years. --While playing a game of pool last Friday, Gerald WARNER got his collar bone dislocated. He was leaning against the pool table and slipped in some manner and when he rose his collar bone had slipped out of place. Gerald has charge of a cream station in Ottumwa and came home to spend New Year’s day with Blakesburg friends. --James NEWELL and son Fred of Los Angeles, Cal., were pleasant callers at The Excelsior office last Friday. Fred was called here on account of his mother’s death and found time to spend a few hours in Blakesburg before returning home. It has been nine...(rest of article missing) --Mr. and Mrs. S. C. SNOW of Ottumwa are visiting their daughter, Mrs. David CUMMINS of Casper, Wyoming. From there they will go to Carpenteria, California where they will spend the winter. --Everett SAPP and Mrs. Lucy STOCKER were united in holy bonds of wedlock at the home of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hiram SAPP, Wednesday evening, December 30, 1925, in the presence of fifteen invited guests. The bride was dressed in a brown plaid gown and the groom wore a blue serge suit. The ceremony was performed by the mayor of Blakesburg. After the the (sic)ceremony was performed, the bride and groom received hearty congratulations from those present, and then came a crowd to chivaria them, who made things lively for a time when Uncle Hiram presented the men with cigars and candy to the ladies. The bride is a daughter of Frank JARVIS of Bunch and the groom is a well known Blakesburg man and their friends wish them well. --Earl ROBERTS and family spent last week at the parental FEIHLE home south of town. --Gene STOCKER came out from Ottumwa for a visit with his grandmother, Mrs. Ida PICKERELL last Saturday. --Blakesburg will gain a splendid family in early spring--the Joe SCHOECH family. They will have a closing out sale in the near future and give up farming for this year, having rented the farm to Victor GOODE. --The 1925 session of the Wapello county board of supervisors was adjourned sine die Saturday and a reorganization of that body made by the members. F. C. McCLUNG was elected chairman of the Board to succeed Alex JOHNSON. JOHNSON began his new three year term by renewing his oath and filing new bonds. The terms of McCLUNG and FAIRCHILD will expire this year. --Albert ANDERSON, a well known Blakesburg citizen, died at the Ottumwa hospital where he had been receiving treatment, on Thursday, December 31st and was buried in the local cemetery Saturday afternoon. Funeral service was conducted at the Les(t?)er JAY undertaking parlor in Ottumwa, by Rev. BERSELL, pastor of the Swedish Lutheran church, last Saturday morning. Mr. ANDERSON was a splendid citizen and if he had an enemy on earth we failed to hear of him. He lived alone in his home in the east part of Blakesburg and was a very congenial neighbor. Thurs Jan 14, 1926 --Newton VanCleave and Son have been butchering hogs for their patrons the past two weeks. They always manage to keep busy both winter and summer. --Mrs. Arthur DAVIS died at her home in Unionville last Sunday morning. She and her husband were married last summer and her maiden name was Emma ROBB. Mrs. DAVIS was well known to the younger folk of Blakesburg who deeply sympathize with the family in their affliction (Elsewhere in this issue: FAIRVIEW...The funeral was held at the Moravia M. E. Church Monday) --The marriage of Vern SCHOECH and Miss Alma DOTY of Unionville took place in Ottumwa Saturday. These young people are very popular young folk and have a host of friends who unite in wishing them unbounded happiness together. They will reside on the SCHOECH farm south of town. The Excelsior extends hearty congratulations. MUNTERVILLE --Mrs. Andrew HULTMAN was taken suddenly ill with pneumonia Friday evening and passed away Monday morning at 5:30. Her daughter from Chicago is expected home this evening. Thurs Jan 28, 1926 --A dandy baby boy arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee BOONE Sunday. --A letter came Friday morning announcing the arrival of a son at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter DAVIS near Golinga, California, January 18th. Mrs. DAVIS will be remembered as Miss Hildred ZIGLER. It is useless to add that Grandma PICKERELL is a very happy woman. --The Excelsior is in receipt of a letter from Mrs. I. D. CONNOR of Chattanooga, Oklahoma, in which she states that the farmers are plowing down there and some are sowing oats. They also grow quite a lot of cotton in that section of Oklahoma and last fall Mrs. CONNOR and her husband harvested 16,500 pounds and Mrs. CONNOR adds that she can pick 300 pounds a day. Mrs. CONNOR is a sister of George MILLARD and has many friends here. --Word was received here recently that our old friend , Robert SELLERS had died at his home in Minnesota on Saturday, January 16th. Mr. SELLERS will be remembered by most all the citizens in Urbana township as he owned the farm belonging to Rev. RAMSEY, and after selling it moved with his family to Minnesota. He came from Illinois here and spent four or five years among us. Interment took place near his home in Minnesota. His numerous friends and old neighbors deeply sympathize with the family in the loss of a father and husband. [Obituary ( which see) says he died in Crivitz, WI] --Herbert VanCleave visited his sister, Mrs. Ronald ROBINSON at Cone, Iowa, Sunday. --Mrs. Nancy BEAGLE, widow of the late John BEAGLE, died at her home in Ottumwa Monday morning. The BEAGLE’s formerly resided in the Pleasant Home neighborhood east of Blakesburg. She is survived by two sons, Ab BEAGLE of Glenmore, La., and Chas.. of Ottumwa. Mrs. BEAGLE was a member of the Willard St. Methodist Church --A party was given at the home of Mrs. Frank FRITZ Tuesday afternoon in honor of her mother, Mrs. STEVENSON, who will soon depart for her new home in Goldfield. Quite a number of ladies were present and a very pleasant afternoon was enjoyed. CHRISTIANBURG --A son was born last week to Dick STEVENS and wife at the home of Chester JOHNSON. Mrs. STEVENS was formerly Miss Myrtle JOHNSON --A son was born to Vernis VISSER and wife last week --Mrs. John VISSER of Cuba spent a few days last week at Henry OSWALD’s helping care for her new grandson, baby VISSER --Lewis GRIGGS and family attended the funeral of Mr. GRIGG’s grandmother in Bloomfield Friday.
