SHEA, wife and daughter Allie attended the Roadmaster’s Convention in Chicago last week. --Walter HOFFMAN of Cheyenne, Wyo., has been visiting his brother, Chas. HOFFMAN, north of town. --Miss Allie SHEA went to Des Moines the last of the week where she holds a position in Younker’s department store. --John Benedict SHEA went to Chicago Sunday night where he witnessed the game between the Cubs and Whitesox. --Miss Pearl KING who has been working at Reinbeck, Iowa, for some time returned home Sunday evening. --We’ve been told by a reliable authority that at some particular times John BALDOCK suffers accute attacks of bashful timidity. We presume John will finally outgrow this ailment as he gets older and will be able to fulfill all dates promptly. --Jacob HUBER reports the sale of radios to the following people recently. Frank NEFF, Mrs. Elsie SEEDS, Dr. H. B. STEVENSON, Ernest FISHER and Marshal CHIDESTER. Edwin L. Carlson Died Edwin L. CARLSON, prominent Blakesburg business man, died at the St. Joseph hospital in Ottumwa last Monday night, after putting up one of the hardest fights to live. Ed was truly a wonderful good fellow and everybody that knew him was his friend. Edwin was taken ill over a month ago and he was taken to the hospital where every attention was given him. His obituary will appear in this paper next week. (SEE: Obituaries Oct 14, 1926) Thurs Oct 21, 1926 --A number of our girls received invitations to a pre-nuptial shower in honor of Miss Berneice GROOMS at her home in Ottumwa Friday evening. Her marriage to Ralph WATSON will take place this (Wednesday) evening. MUNTERVILLE --Mrs. John KIMBLADE returned home from Chillicothe where she has been caring for her new grandaughter at the Allie ANDERSON home. --A variety shower was given at the Emil LARSON home Saturday afternoon in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin LARSON who were married at Eldon on Wednesday, Oct. 6th. WHAT-NOTS --There was quite a celebration held over at Munterville Sunday, three couples being present who had been married over 50 years. Mr. and Mrs. John JOHNSON who were married fifty years, Mr. and Mrs. John NELSON fifty-one years, and Mr. and Mrs. Jacob PETERSON fifty-two years, being the first couple married in the Munterville church. Mrs. JOHNSON was Mrs. NELSON’s bridesmaid. The three couples preceeded by Rev. WIBERG marched in to the hall as Bertha SWANSON played the wedding march. They were seated at a table in the center of the hall, decorated in gold. The center piece was a large wedding cake with a miniature bride and groom under an arch. All three brides cut the cake. Refreshments of sandwiches, pickles, cakes, wafers and coffee were served. The following program was rendered: Song, "Onward Christian Soldiers;" Scripture reading and prayer by Rev. WIBERT:, Quartet, "Love’s Old Sweet Song;" Talk by the minister, Solo, "When You and I Were Young Maggie", (substituting names of brides) by Mary SWANSON; talks by the grooms, Old time Sweedish (sic) song; Song by the congregation, "Blessed be the Tie." Eleven people were present who were guests at the weddings half a century ago. (NOTE: Bertha and Mary SWANSON were daughters of Charles L. SWANSON and Sopha A. CARLSON) A very pleasant and enjoyable day was spent at the Emery CHIDESTER home Sunday honoring the 70th birthday anniversary of Mrs. CHIDESTER. The relatives and friends brought well filled baskets and at noon a delicious dinner was served. Among the fifty relatives present were Mrs. Hulda PITTENGER of Great Bend, Kansas, Mrs. Anna OVERTON of Howard, Kansas, Mrs. Marietta JOHNSTON, W. M. WILCOX and wife, Geo. CHIDESTER and wife, Kester CHIDESTER and children, Harry CHIDESTER and wife, Ancil CHIDESTER and family, Owen RITTER and family, Hale CHIDESTER and family, W.F. WYMORE, Basil CHIDESTER, Mrs. Agnes PECK, Dave CHIDESTER and family. The afternoon was pleasantly spent with music and singing. As the shades of evening were falling all departed wishing Mrs. CHIDESTR many happy returns of the day. Mrs. PITTENGER and daughter, Mrs. OVERTON also Mrs. JOHNSTON remained at the CHIDESTER home for a few days visit. --Mrs. Emma ROBINSON of Des Moines and John ROBINSON and daughter of Corydon spent Sunday at the C. W. READING home. Charlie was 83 years old Sunday and his relatives helped to celebrate the occasion. Thurs, Oct 28, 1926 --Mrs. A. M OVERTURF and son Roy called at Dan Fletcher’s Sunday evening. --Mrs. Dan FLETCHER spent the week end in the Burg helping care for her mother who is sick. CHRISTIANBURG --Mrs. Tena JOHNSTON and sons Harold and Orville, Clarence PATRICK and family and Archie GOODE and family were Sunday afternoon visitors at Frank JOHNSTON’s --The Chas. RICHARDSON residence burned to the ground Monday, all the contents were lost but they had some insurance. --Mag THOMPSON of Blakesburg visited a few days recently with her sister, Mrs. Josie CANFIELD. --Miss Pearl WARNER returned home Friday after several days visit with her sister, Mrs. Frank JOHNSTON. NORTH OF TOWN --Miss Bertha McKISSIC and Elmer SWANSON were united in marriage Wednesday, October 20th at 6 p.m. at the United Presbyterian parsonage at Burlington, Rev. JAMESON officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McKISSIC witnessing the ceremony. Mr. SWANSON and his bride will go to housekeeping in Burlington where he has employment. This worthy young couple are well known in this community. Here is wishing them happiness and success through life. (NOTE: Elmer L. SWANSON is a son of Charles L. SWANSON AND Sopha A. CARLSON) BROMPTON --Pearl ANDERSON of Seattle, Wash., departed for his home Monday after a two weeks visit at the Curg McCOY home. --Mrs. Hazel SHEETS spent the past week with her parents in Mystic. --Mr. MATHIAS and family of Illinois spent one day last week with Mrs. MATHIAS’ parents Mr. and Mrs. Wm. STOCKER and brother John STOCKER and family. (NOTE: this is Joseph Lewis MATHIAS, wife Alberta Margaret STOCKER, children Verna, Jack, Earl, William, Guy and Cora Ann.
