G. THAYER. He departed for his home Sunday night. CHRISTIANBURG --Lawrence SMITH and wife are the proud parents of a son, born last week. MARRIED --Miss Elsie HILL, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. N. HILL was married Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock to Ernest G. SCHOECH of Blakesburg. The Rev. L. H. LANNING read the ring service at the HILL home, 1025 Boone Ave., in the presence of a number of relatives and friends of the young couple. The bride had as her only attendant Miss Mary HILLER and Charles HILL served Mr. SCHOECH as best man. Following the ceremony and congratulations a luncheon was served. A color scheme of pink and white was carried out in the house decorations and in the refreshments. The bride wore a frock of beige georgette and a corsage of sunburst roses. Miss HILLER’s dress was of figured georgette and her flowers were sweat peas. Mrs. SCHOECH is a graduate of the Ottumwa high school with the class of 1916. She has taught for some time in the public schools of Blakesburg. Mr. SCHOECH is the son of Mrs. Gertie SCHOECH of Blakesburg. He and his bride will be at home after March 15th on a farm near Blakesburg. Out-of-town guests at the wedding included the groom’s mother; Misses Angeline and Beulah SCHOECH, Walter BARNES, Clella McCOY and Mr. and Mrs. Walter HUBER, all of Blakesburg and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd GEPHART of Burlington--Ottumwa Courier. --Dillon HAMILTON, son of C. L. HAMILTON and wife, who is now a sophmore in liberal arts at the Drake University is now in the state of Texas with the Drake debating team which will beet the teams of Ft. Worth, Waco and Austin. Dillon was valedictorian of the class of ‘24 at the West high school in Des Moines. NORTH OF TOWN --Miss Lenora NELSON, teacher of the Munterville school gave a party at her home Wednesday evening in honor of the Bert JOHNSON children and Dorleen and Arlo ANDERSON, who are moving away this week. All the pupils of the school were present. The evening was spent in playing games and the little folk all enjoyed themselves. Dainty refreshments were served. --Alfred ANDERSON and family will move this week to Detroit, Michigan. --John GUNNARSON and sisters Lottie and Augusta are moving to Munterville and will occupy the Bert JOHNSON property they purchased recently. NORTH STAR --Henry and Alfred LACKER visited Saturday night with their sister Mrs. M. C. WINTERMOTE. GLEN SELMAN WRITES Colo. Springs, Colo Feb 25, 1926 Dear Fred:--Well your paper sure come in handy out here in the wide open spaces where men are men and women grow to be governors, but not yet. I have sure been feeling fine but employment is scarce though they have commenced to build a little. The mountains are all covered with snow and last week we had about 8 inches of snow, so it is a little wet underfoot but it has been awfully nice here the last few days. I am working at the Broadmoor Paint shop and it is nice pleasant work. They paint them all from Fords to Rolls-Royces. Thurs, Mar. 11, 1926 --Earl ROBERTS, guardian of Selma SCHWARTZENBAUGH, went to St. Louis last week, where Miss SCHWARTZENBAUGH entered the German Lutheran Home for aged people --As we go to press we are informed of the death of Mrs. Jess JONES which occurred this forenoon. --Wm. ROSE is on the sick list at this time. His daughter Mrs. Vena LEACH is assisting in his care. BIDWELL --Claud BAKER of Chicago spent the week end with relatives here. --Mrs. Ralph BAKER entertained a company of friends Thursday evening in honor of her husband’s birthday. CHRISTIANBURG --Mrs. Fred PERRY of Barymer, Mo., is visiting her sister-in-law Miss. Ella PERRY. WHAT-NOTS --A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ira SHAW at the ottumwa hospital March 7th. Her name is Maxine Bernell (could be Berneil) Thur. Mar 18, 1926 Fred LEFFLER Suicides in the County Jail Fred LEFFLER, became despondent while serving time in the county jail and took his own life by hanging early Monday morning. Quite recently he was tried in the District court at Ottumwa for bootlegging and finally plead guilty. The court assessed a fine of $1,000 and in default of payment he was placed in the county jail. He was not used to being confined and it is thought preyed upon his mind so strongly that he decided life was not worth living and committed suicide. Fred was a son of the late Wm. LEFFLER. A Fine Herd of Cattle at Waveland Farm The Excelsior man stopped at the Waveland farm south of town the other day and took a look at their herd of fine cattle. They have some choice Polled Angus cattle that are hard to beat and Howard EAKENS, who has charge of affairs, says their fine condition is due to the fact that he has fed them on silage. He also says that the chickens have learned to like it and can make a good meal out of silage. The Waveland stock farm was made famous by the late David JAY and it is one of the best known farms in Wapello county. CASSILL Child Dies at Ash Grove last Friday The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Lester CASSILL of near Ash Grove sympathize with them in the loss of their two-year-old son William Raymond, who passed away at their home at 4 o’clock last Friday evening. He had been ill only a short time and when the death angel came and took him Home, it left sadness in the hearts of his parents and relatives. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. J. E. WARD at the Ash Grove M.E. Church last Sunday afternoon and burial took place in the Wesley Chapel cemetery. Mrs. J. M WOODRUFF DIES Mrs. J. M. WOODRUFF died at her home southwest of Blakesburg last Monday evening, after a short illness. The funeral services will be held Thursday. Obituary will be published of this old pioneer next week. --The funeral service for Fred LEFFLER was held Wednesday and burial took place in the Jay cemetery.
