She had a very delightful time while away and reports Frank, Ed and Mildred just fine. Ed is expected home on a furlough the last of this month. --Dan FULLERTON of near Unionville was a Blakesburg visitor last Saturday and called at The Excelsior office. Dan spent several years in South Dakota, but likes old Iowa so much better that he has decided to live and die here. Dan is one of the solid tillers of the soil and his word has always been good as gold. --Ermet LAWSON, who with her parents of Aurora, Ill., were visiting at the KITTERMAN home north of Blakesburg, was bitten by a vicious dog last Sunday afternoon, lacerating her face so badly that eight stitches were necessary to close the wound. The dog was tied up and the child got within his reach when it jumped upon the child and commenced to tear away the flesh from its face. The dog has bitten four other people and is regarded as a vicious animal. The LAWSON child was taken to Chicago Sunday night to consult a specialist. --J. W. KEPHART has been very ill at his home south of Blakesburg for the past week. --Wayne SCHOECH has been taking treatment of a specialist in Ottumwa for a Mastoid growth. CLYDE of Washington, Nebr., was shaking hands with Blakesburg friends Saturday. --Mrs. Laura MILLER spent several days as a guest of her daughter, Mrs H. B. (ST?)EVENSON in Ottumwa. --Miss Hazel ROSS, who has been a guest of Blakesburg relatives for some time returned to her home in Des Moines last week. --Miss Wilodean McELROY, who has been attending the Iowa Success business college in Ottumwa, is enjoying a month’s vacation --Edwin CARLSON left Saturday noon for Centerville where he will join with Co G, and go to Camp Dodge for a two week’s encampment. --Miss Geneva SAMMON, Hiteman, Iowa, is Stenographer with Graham (In?)surance Company. She is a graduate of the Iowa Success School, Ottumwa. --G. A. BURKHART of Oklahoma came last week for a visit with his sister, Mrs. Oliver PREVER. He reports crops conditions were an average and he likes the climate fine in Oklahoma. Mr. BURKHART used to reside southeast of Blakesburgh and used to help Lonnie SMITH with his thrashing machine. --Mr. and Mrs. Dan RYBOLT came down from Albia last week for a visit with their daughter, Mrs.Newton VANCLEAVE. Mr. RYBOLT called at the "news factory" Monday. He was postmaster at Blakesburg for about sixteen years and is very spry for an 86 year old boy. He can ride a bicycle today with less exertion than some of the kids about town. --Mrs. Emily RICHARDSON, 85 years old and living near Bidwell, ended her life with a revolver shot Friday afternoon. Her body was found about 5:30 o’clock by her son and daughter-in-law, Mrs. and Mrs. Charles RICHARDSON, with whom she had made her home. They had been picking berries and returned to the house to find the body, fully clothed, lying on a bed. The bullet had entered the right temple and had come out at the left. The revolver was near the body. Mrs. RICHARDSON had recently returned from a visit with relatives in Kentucky and earlier in the afternoon had addressed a postcard to the ones she had spent her time with there. The card was found in the mail box awaiting the postman’s call. It carried no mention of the suicide being contemplated. Besides her son in this county Mrs RICHARDSON is survived by her daughters, Mrs. S. KELLENGER and Mrs. H. WILSON of Mason City, Mrs. G. BARNES of Kansas City, Mrs. W. WALL of Simmonsville, Mo.,and son James of Kansas City. Thurs Aug 19, 1926 --Pat MALONEY and wife are enjoying a visit at the parental SHEA home. --Rev. and Mrs. L. L. BOND were guests of Blakesburg friends Sunday., Rev. BOND is now serving a pastorate of the Presbyterian church in this state. --Prof. FARNSWORTH arrived in Blakesburg last Monday and will become a permanent fixture here. His family will arrive about October 1st. --Miss Elsie GUTCH of Albia and Mr. Orval BAIRD were married in Oskaloosa Saturday, August 14th. The groom is a son of Mrs. Asa BAIRD residing on Miller Ridge and is a splendid young man and a good farmer. While the bride is unknown to the writer, yet she has the reputation of being a charming young woman and The Excelsior extends hearty congratulations. --Mrs. Josie SHIELDS and sons, Dean and Donald returned from their motor trip to Nebraska and South Dakota Monday evening. URBANA --Chas. VANCLEAVE, wife and son Ray of Des Moines were calling on friends in this community last week. --Mrs. Frances WILSON and sons, Bill WILSON and wife also Marion ESLINGER were Sunday visitors at Bob and Jim WILSON’S. --Mrs. Opal WILSON spent Saturday afternoon at the parental DuVALL home near Moravia. --Ed BUCKINGHAM and wife spent Saturday afternoon at the home of their son Loren near Iconium.
