She was born August 22, 1843 in Portage County, Ohio, and when three years of age came with her parents, A. F. and Clarissa MILLER to Monroe county. She was united in marriage to L. B. CARLTON February 14, 1861, and to this union were born four children, Charles Monroe who died in infancy, D. C. and A. F. CARLTON of Albia, and Mrs Ada HINTON, Survey, Neb. Her husband passed to the great beyond four years ago. Those left to mourn her departure, the two sons, one daughter, sixteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, three brothers, A. J. and D. R. MILLER of Albia and W. S. MILLER of Gooding, Idaho, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was converted and united with the Methodist church many years ago always lived a faithful and useful christian life, ready to help and do for those in need, not only giving a mother’s love and care to her own children until they went to homes of their own, but she made a home for her husband’s brother, Harley CARLTON, and for Ray BELLES after the death of his mother. Her many deeds of kindness will long be remembered. Our loss is her gain. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 11 o’clock at the Miller Ridge church, conducted by the Rev. Chas. ELLIS. Interment in the Smith cemetery.
