Miss Martha Francis STOOPS was born April 2, 1851 in Monroe county, Iowa, and departed this life April 3, 1925, age 74 years and one day. She was united in marriage to A. M. TAIT February 1883 and to them was born one daughter, Ruby. Mrs. TAIT lived in Monroe county until she with her family moved to Blakesburg where she has since resided. She remembered her Creator in the days of her youth and at the age of twelve years she became a christian, united with the Church of Christ, remaining a true and consistent member for sixty-two years. Mrs. TAIT was of an unusual quiet and unassuming disposition, a great home body, partial to good reading and a great lover of the beauties of natures. She was an artist of rare ability and many are the paintings of favorite portraits, sketches and landscapes adorn the walls of the family home, each one in its silent language speakes (sic) of tender memories of some particular object or place she admired, or perhaps the face of some who were near and dear to her. No more will she weild (sic) the brush to portray the beauties of this place but she has entered into that beautiful realm where the glories of eternal life are a reality in that home where Jesus said: "I go to prepare a place for you that where I am there ye may be also." Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. R. F. ALLEN, assisted by Rev. Chas. ELLIS of the M. E. Church. The songs were furnished by a male quartet, composed of Messers CHILDS, SCHAEFER, TUBAUGH and ABERNATHY with Anna CUNNINGHAM accompanist. Interment in the Tate cemetery west of town Thus is the closing chapter of the life of our friend and neighbor who has gone from our midst and The Excelsior joins with the entire community in extending sincerest sympathy to Dr. TAIT and daughter in the loss of the dear wife and mother.
