Those who survive are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. CARLSON of Munterville, one sister, Grace; three brothers, Lawrence and Herman at home and Glen E. of Ottumwa. Miss Blanche B. OWEN his fiancee to whom he was to have been married September 8, 1926, also mourns his death. His occupation was automobile mechanic, having followed this work for the past fourteen years, formerly in Creston and Centerville but lately with the TINSLEY Motor company of Blakesburg. April 11, 1917 he enlisted in the U. S. Army at the time of the world war and was among the first of the boys who were encamped at Eldon later being sent to Demming, N. M. serving one year on the border with the 190th field signal battalion of the Sandstorm Division. He spent a short time at Camp Dix, N. J. before going over seas. From October 1918 to May 1919 he served his company as Sergeant Mechanic in France. His total enlistment period in the service covered two years and one month. At the time of his death he was a member of the Iowa National Guard being Sergeant of Company G, stationed at Centerville. He was also Vice Commander of the American Legion Post No. 495 of Blakesburg. Mr. Carlson was a lover of his country and army life and for the past two years was a member of the Iowa State Rifle team, having won several medals of distinction in marksmanship at Camp Petty Ohio during the summer of 1925 and at Camp Dodge in 1926. Edwin was confirmed at the Munterville Lutheran Church with the class of 1910 and has remained a faithful member of this church until the time of his death. The funeral was held at Munterville October 7th, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Curtis WIBERG and the body laid to rest in the Munterville cemetery with military honors. His life was always useful and cheerful and he was loved by all who knew him. May God bless his memory among us. Thurs Oct 28, 1926 IN MEMORIUM Vercel Eugene GUNNARSON was born on February 20th, 1926, and died October 22, 1926, at the age of 8 months and two days. The father, Reuben GUNNARSON preceded him in death April 14, 1926. The survivors are: his mother, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred GUNNARSON, Mr. and Mrs. BARNES, one great grandmother, Mrs. Annie BARNES, one great grandfather, James MILLER besides several uncles and aunts. Funeral services were held at the Munterville Lutheran church Sunday, October 24th, Rev. Curtis WIBERG officiating. Burial made in the Munterville cemetery. Vercel was baptized when three days old, and now rests safe in the arms of Jesus. "Peace be unto his memory."
