HOWK, an old pioneer died at the home of his son, Chas., southeast of Blakesburg, Sunday morning at the ripe age of 86 years, 11 months and 16 days. He was born in Indiana, December 12, 1839. In 1863 he was united in marriage with Ellen FREDERICK, who died Oct 17, 1917. To this union were born ten children, two of whom preceeded him in death. Those surviving are Mrs. Levi DYE of Ash Grove, Mrs. Maggie HUNT of Pasadena, Cal,. Mrs. E. C. REEVES of Ottumwa. four sons, George of Cal., Chas. of Ash Grove, Harrison and James of Ottumwa. Mr. HOWK and wife resided in Greene township all of their married life, except five years spent in Missouri. Besides his children, he is survived by forty grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a brother Elisha HOWK and many friends. Funeral service was conducted by Rev. EATON at the Hopewell Baptist church Monday afternoon.
