E. and Etta SIMPSON, was born at Blakesburg, Ia., Aug. 23, 1910, and died in Pierre, June 23, 1926, at the age of 15 years, 9 months and 24 days. His death is mourned by his parents, two brothers, Howard and Gerald, two sisters, Merle and Jessie Maude, all of whom are at home. One brother had preceeded him in death. Mr. and Mrs. M. D. SIMPSON of Midland, are his grandparents. Another grandparent, Mrs. Melissa ROSS resides at Blakesburg, Iowa. Versal came to South Dakota in 1919 and lived on the farm near Ottumwa, attending school there every year except during the school year just past, when he completed the second year of high school work at Murdo. On the day of the fatal accident he had just completed the harrowing of a field of corn at a distance of some three-eighths of a mile from the house. He was driving four horses, hitched to a 24-foot drag. He drove out of the corn field and into the adjoining alfalfa field to unhitch. His 8 year old sister was with him and the time was about 10:30, on Tuesday of that week. As he walked behind the horses, one of them, a five year old, just broken to harness this spring, kicked him with great force, the hoof striking him in the abdomen. He was thrown to the ground, but was able to rise, recover the lines and stop the team before he sank again unconscious. When consciousness returned, inspite (sic) of intense suffering, he was able to walk to the house. Dr. RAMEY was summoned immediately, and took him to the hospital at Pierre. Until Wednesday afternoon there was some hope for his recovery, but a sudden change for the worse at that time made the physicians suspect irreparable internal injury. Operation that evening disclosed such a frightful rupture of the liver as to be beyond the power of a surgeon to correct. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Ottumwa, conducted by Rev. C. M. WEIRAUCH, of Ft. Pierre. The body was placed in the Mattison cemetery beside that of his brother Ronald, who met his death two years ago with the horse he was riding ran into a fence and fell with him. ---Midland Mail.
