Since leaving the service with a disability, he lived at
Hartford, Ia., LeRoy, and Fredonia Kansas where he died on
3 April 1879.

Mary Ellen Marshman McMahan continued to recieve his pension
stated they were married 29 March 1862 Warren Co., Iowa.
Their childern were: John Harvey Jr.,Charles A., William S.,
Dick D., Marietta, Chatham T., Celia M.
