This biography was copied from "Washington County in the World War", page 32 John R. Buckley Chicago, Illinois John R. Buckley of Chicago, Illinois, was born at Washington, Iowa, on July 21, 1891. He is the son of John D. Buckley and Mary Cross. He is a graduate of Washington High School and attended Chicago University two and a half years. Army Record First Lieutenant Buckley entered the First Officers' Training Camp at Fort Sheridan, Ill., and at the close of the school was commissioned Second Lieutenant and sent to Camp Grant, Ill., where he was a member of Battery D, 332nd Field Artillery, 86th Division. On September 15, 1918, he embarked for France and during his period of service there he was stationed at Le Courneau, Gironde. He received his discharge February 28, 1919 at Camp Grant, Ill.
