This is to Certify, that Howard T. Swisher
Private, Co.M,1st Iowa Infantry National Guard
is hereby Honorably Discharged from the National Guard of the United States 
and the State of Iowa by reason of  Draft into Federal Services
Said  Howard T. Swisher was born in Brighton in the State of  Iowa
When enlisted he was 19 years of age and by occupation a  Student
He had  Gray  eyes, Dark  hair,  Ruddy Complexion, and was 5 feet 8 inches in 
height.  
Given under my hand at Ft Des.Moines,Iowa this
5th day of August, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen
