This biography was copied from "Washington County in the World War", page 15 Leon Gentry Washington, Iowa Leon Gentry of Washington, was born at McGaheysville, Virginia, on August 16, 1890. He was the son of Wm. R. Gentry and Ida Wood. Army Record Seaman Gentry entered the service at Davenport, Iowa, July 5, 1918. He was sent to the Great Lakes Naval Training Station for training. He was later transferred to the Naval Training Station at New Orleans. He was again transferred to active service at the Naval Patrol Station, Pacific Section, Balboa, Cz. He was taken ill with the Spanish Influenza in February, 1919, and died February 28, 1919.
