This biography was copied from "Washington County in the World War", page 31 John W. Hancher Washington, Iowa John W. Hancher of Washington, was born at Cotter, Iowa, on November 12, 1895. He is the son of Daniel S. Hancher and Millie O'Neal. Army Record Private Hancher entered the service July 22, 1918, going to Camp Pike, Ark., where he was assigned to the August Replacement Draft. He landed overseas September 29, 1918, and was then assigned to Co. A, 303rd Machine Gun Battalion, 76th Division. He was later transferred to Prisoner of Was Escort, Co. 118, stationed at Brest, France. He was discharged October 6, 1919.
