Daryl Mathers Washington, Iowa Daryl Mathers of Washington, was born at Ainsworth, Iowa, February 11, 1895. He was the son of John C. Mathers and Lillie Cates. Army Record Corporal Mathers, entered the service June 20, 1916, as a member of Co. K, First Iowa Infantry, which served on the Mexican border. He was transferred to Co. K, 168th Infantry, 42nd Division, and went overseas in November, 1917. He was gassed July 15, 1918, on the Champagne front but got back in time for the Meuse-Argonne drive just before the Armistice. He was discharged May 3, 1919.
