This biography was copied from "Washington County in the World War", page 28 John Arthur Mayer Brighton, Iowa John Arthur Mayer of Brighton, was born in Washington County, Iowa, on December 23, 1893. He is the son of Anton Louis Mayer and Martha L. Luers. Army Record Private Mayer entered the service July 22, 1918, and was sent to Camp Pike, Arkansas. He landed overseas October 1, 1918. He was first attached to the 301st Machine Gun Battalion, 76th Division and was then transferred to Co. B, 18th Machine Gun Battalion, 6th Division, which he reached about the time the armistice was signed. He was discharged June 28, 1919, from Camp Dodge.
