This biography was copied from "Washington County in the World War", page 13 C. Dewey McAvoy Washington, Iowa C. Dewey McAvoy of Washington, was born at Washington, Iowa, on May 3, 1898. He was the son of Samuel McAvoy and Mary Townsend. Army Record Private McAvoy entered the service in June, 1917, at Washington with Co. K, First Iowa Infantry from which he was transferred to Co. K, 168th Infantry, 42nd Division at Camp Mills, Long Island, N. Y. He landed overseas December 1, 1917, and after training at Rimecourt, France entered the Lorraine Sector, then the Champagne Defensive and Last the battle of Chateau-Thierry, where he was killed in action July 27, 1918.
