This biography was copied from "Washington County in the World War", page 38 Howard Dale Moreland Ainsworth, Iowa Howard Dale Moreland of Ainsworth, was born at Ainsworth, Iowa, on December 26, 1894. He is the son of Robert H. Moreland and Nannie Love Moreland. He is married and his wife's maiden name was Alta Carson. Army Record Corporal Moreland entered the service April 3, 1917, at Davenport, Iowa, in the Field Artillery, National Guard. He was transferred to Battery B, 126th Field Artillery, 34th Division at Camp Cody, N. M. He landed overseas July 10, 1918, with a replacement Draft and was then assigned to Battery C, 108th Field Artillery. He saw action at Chateau-Thierry and in the Meuse-Argonne. He was gassed September 25, 1918. He was discharged August 25, 1919, from Camp Dodge.
