This biography was copied from "Washington County in the World War", page 10 Henry H. Russel Washington, Iowa Henry H. Russle of Washington, was born at Trenton, Missouri, on December 18, 1894. He was the son of Horace W. Russel and Constance Hughes. He was a graduate of Washington High School. Army Record Lieutenant Russel entered the service at Des Moines, Iowa, June 7, 1917. He was sent to Fort Leavenworth to take his training in the Engineers. He embarked for overseas in March, 1918. While in France he was sent to the Officers Training School at Langres, France, and won his commission there. He was assigned to Co. E, 7th Engineers. Much of his work was near the front line trenches and while leading his platoon on October 14, 1918, at the Argonne he was struck by an explosive shell and instantly killed.
