This biography was copied from "Washington County in the World War", page 11 Galen Dilly Sitler Wellman, Iowa Galen Dilly Sitler of Wellman, was born at Daytonville, Iowa, on October 21, 1888. He was the son of D. C. Sitler and Rachel E. Shoff. Army Record First Sergeant Sitler entered the service January 27, 1918 at Berkley, California, in the Naval Aviation. He was transferred to Camp Hancock, Georgia, where he was attending the Officers Training School when he contracted pneumonia of which he died November 10, 1918. He had previously served out a four year enlistment in the Navy, from 1913 to 1917, serving on the Scout Cruiser Salem and the Battleships Virginia and Nevada.
