He is the son of Martin Z. Steinmetz and Mary Nash. Army Record Private Steinmetz entered the service at Davenport, Iowa on May 17, 1918, and was sent to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where he entered the Signal Corps, as a member of Casual Replacement Detachment Company B. He was transferred to the 15th Service Company I, on June 12, and served with that unit until his discharge, July 25, 1918. He had also served with Co K, First Iowa Infantry, from February 6, 1917, to June 19, 1917.
