Mrs. Louisa Bernard, wife of Henry Bernard, aged 70 years, 7 months and 11 days. Funeral services were held at the home, on Wednesday, April 16, at 10 o'clock a.m. conducted by Rev. W. R. Stryker. Burial at Wellman cemetery. Louisa, daughter of Catherine and Benjamin Gray, was born in Pickaway county, Ohio, Aug 20, 1831. Removed to Iowa in 1853, and was married to Henry Bernard Aug. 28, 1854. The husband still survives and deeply mourns the death of a true and loving wife. Seven children were born to them. All are living, as follows: Mary Catherine, wife of A. J. Dawson, Laura Ann, wife of Geo. Ayers; Lewis Julius; Hiram; Lizzie Jane, widow of Richard Ayers; Ella May, wife of Chas. Wahl; Bertha Bell, wife of Lewis Wahl. All the children reside in Nebraska except the last three named. One sister and four brothers also remain to mourn her. They are: Mrs. Isabelle Adams of Wellman, Hiram Gray of Daytonville; John and Anderson Gray of Illinois; Wm. Schurr, of Washington, a half brother. Mrs. Bernard has resided in this neighborhood ever since coming west 49 years ago. She was always devoted to her home and loved ones, ever ready to lend a helping hand in case of sickness or misfortune in the neighborhood. Her life was one of faithful devotion to those about her, and the world has been better and brighter for her having lived in it. Her death is the first break in the family circle. The bereaved husband, children and all relatives may feel assured of a wide spread sympathy in the hour of their deep affliction.
