A. Embree, aged 79, passed away at her farm home 3 miles north of Keota Wednesday afternoon after a long and painful illness which had its inception with a broken hip. Interment in the Keota cemetery. Mrs. Embree was born Margaret Phillips, daughter of Dr. James and Margaret Gray Phillip, on April 2, 1859 at Dayton, Iowa, near the present town of Wellman. She was married March 14, 1874, to James A. Embree of Washington, a veteran of the Civil War. To this union was born seven children, one of whom died in infancy. The eldest daughter, Mrs. Addie Brown, died in 1903. Surviving are A.L. Embree and Mrs. May Green of Cedar Rapids, William C. Embree of West Chester, James Forest Embree of Keota, and Mrs. Marie Berg of Dubuque. One sister, Mrs. Prudence Knauss of Washington also survives. Two sisters preceded her in death, Mrs. Lizzie Spees and Mrs. Nora Holten. Mr. Embree passed away just seventeen months ago on June 30, 1937. Additional Comments: There is much more to the obituary.
